Remembering Charlotte: Event to mark first year

Update

An excellent response to this.  I’ve had ‘you bet’ or ‘I’ll try’ from around 40 people.  Even those I haven’t seen for silly amounts of time, or are making long journeys.  I’d like to think it’s about me, but I’m sure most of it is Charlotte’s doing.

If you’re Andover way on Sunday morning, then a group of us will be walking to the station for the 11:46 to Basingstoke.  Gets in at 12:02, so I should be on-site for 12:30.

If anyone else has bought tickets online and didn’t get them in their email very soon after, then you have the same trouble I have.  You’ll need to call Hampshire council on 0845 603 5638 and talk to someone in the HantsWeb shop.

See you all soon!

---------------------------------------------------------------

I’ve decided to organise a gathering for the anniversary of Charlotte’s death.  A lot of people came to see her off last year and I think it would be good to get as many of her friends, my friends, our friends, together to remember her, and to see how me and little Flo are doing.  I haven’t got round to seeing some of you again in the last year, for which I am sorry.

I am proposing we all meet at noon on Sunday the 13th of October, in Basingstoke, at OctoberFest.  Charlotte and I went to the first one and greatly enjoyed the subsequent ones too.  A beer festival, food festival, fun fair, and craft fair, in the grounds of a museum.  Top day out.

Bring the kids; I’m bringing Florence.  There is a lot more for them to do than a run of the mill beer festival.  Also Sunday is Family Day, and they do special family tickets.  It is a ticketed event, which also gets you access to the Milestones museum, which is a fine day out in and of itself.

There’s classic cars, traction engines, and shire horses.  Pony rides, face painting, a Victorian fun fair, and falconry.  There are fifty food and craft stalls around the site; some outside and some in the period recreation of the Milestones town.  Things to make, competitions to enter, and of course, lots of beers and ciders to sample.

There are more details on the OctoberFest website.  Advance tickets online are cheaper.

I hope to see you there and we shall have a fine lunch, a fine time, and raise a glass to our missing friend.
